Debut Memoir Out Now

Breaking Free: A Memoir of Childhood trauma and addiction

by Darrell Houck, Jr

A 100% true and inspirational story. “Breaking Free” is a brutally honest account of my life and struggles. Travel through my journey of being a severely abused foster child turned drug-addicted adult. After 40 plus years of my life, I now live to help and inspire others to overcome their obstacles. This book entails my journey from trying to numb the emotional wreckage inside me with drugs and relationships to someone who has found forgiveness and compassion for his abusers. I genuinely desire for this book to help others who have struggled, or are currently struggling, to find healing, forgiveness, and self-love.

I recently read "Breaking Free: A memoir of Childhood Abuse and Addiction." By Darrell Houck Jr.

I have never read a book that both sickened me and broke my heart more than "Breaking Free" and then turned around and healed and inspired me. This book takes a hard raw look at child abuse, abandonment and neglect, then leads the reader through the dark side of alcohol, drug and sexual abuse. It is difficult to stomach and definitely not for children. However, it can help those who are victims of abuse and addiction see the light at the end of the tunnel and help loved ones of victims understand a little better what they have and are going through. One of Darrell's sayings is; "Life is to be lived and loved." which says a lot about Darrell's strength of character. The book is about the healing power of love. Darrell's ten "Takeaways" at the end are for everyone who is seeking a better and happier life. Everyone needs to read this book who wants to help someone they love overcome abuse and addiction and overcome depression and maybe even avoid suicide. It will be an inspiration to anyone mature enough to read it.

About DArrell

For decades of my life, I was on a divine journey. I sought love and healing from traumas in my life that started as early as three-years-old. From the time I reached my teenage years, I have had one goal in mind: to help other kids. It took me over forty years to get to where I am today, but I have reached a point in life where the student can now become the teacher. Though I will never stop learning, I have overcome many obstacles and wish to share both; my journey and learning, so that others may also be inspired to become their best selves. I endlessly dared to dream a dream of using my life and growth to inspire others. Today, I spend my days doing just that!
